Environmentalists around the country and internationally are meeting up once a month for fun get-togethers known as green drinks. This phenomenon has become a way to catch up with fellow green people and make new contacts. These informal networking events give environmentally minded people a chance to bond over a few drinks. Started in London in 1989 by Edwin Datschefski, it has spread to 51 cities in the United Kingdom, 223 cities in the United States, and as of March 2008 there are 350 Green Drink Chapters worldwide. Its largest chapter, the New York City chapter, started by Margaret Lydecker in July, 2002 has about 10,000 members and hosted the largest Green Drinks event in history in 2007 with its holiday party for over 900 people. Not only are people starting to think green, they are starting to drink green. So, head out and look for your local Green Drinks. Youll be supporting local community initiatives, or just sharing cool new ideas about green living. Green Drinks Homepage
