Executive Committee

ExCom has oversight responsibility for the group and ensures that the group is carrying out our mission productively and are responsible for our activities locally. If you know of someone you think would be a good ExCom member, or you are interested in serving yourself, then please contact us.

Membership and Volunteers

Maintain and update member and volunteer information for the group on Sierra Club's HELEN database. Find committed people to fill our volunteer openings. Free training provided for HELEN.

Political Committee

We are looking for people to carry out background research on candidates running for local office; draft a questionnaire on issues we care about for candidates; arrange times and places to interview candidates; participate in the candidate interviews; and make endorsements. Please contact us if you know somebody or are interested yourself.

Treasurer

John Fay has stepped down after ten years of service as our Treasurer. We are looking for a new volunteer treasurer to manage our budget and financial statements. Training will be provided. If you want to help the environment and have financial skills, we need you. Specific duties include the following:

• Maintains all bank accounts and tracks related transactions.
• Monitors the budget and ensures that an adequate cash balance is maintained.
• Reports to the executive committee and membership on finances.
• Prepares any required reports to Montgomery County Group and Maryland Chapter and safeguards financial records.
• Reports monthly to the group and yearly to the chapter.
• Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, and laws.
• Maintains sales tax and postal permits.
• Ensures separation of club funds used for advocacy and lobbying versus Sierra Club Foundation funds used for outreach, training, and education.
