Help us protect the Agriculture Reserve for real agricultural purposes! We need advocates today to help us close loopholes in the law that allow big development in the rural "heartland" of our County.
Our members are taking a proactive stand in invasive plant removal by becoming Certified Weed Warriors with the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) or The Nature Conservancy (TNC). Becoming a Weed Warrior allows you to lead others and independently remove invasive plants from Montgomery County Parks (M-NCPPC) and the Potomac Gorge (TNC) that threaten our forests, meadows and wetlands.
Organize field trips, workshops, and lectures that increase public awareness of habitat and biodiversity loss and teach people about solutions.
Leverage funding and donations by applying for grants that address a specific goal-oriented project. The person in this position will also seek donations of equipment and funding from local businesses. Preference for people with experience in experience in writing successful proposals and grant applications
Work with our experts, local garden centers and County Council to pass Forest Conservation amendments, a law prohibiting the sale, introduction. and propagation of certain invasive species, and other legislation protecting our environment. The nature of this position requires daytime hours.
We are partnering with Montgomery County Parks to remove invasive plant species and restore the native plant communities in this historically important area. We need a committed person who is a Certified Weed Warrior and is working toward or is a Certified Weed Warrior Supervisor to oversee habitat restoration at the Trail. This person in this position will interface with Montgomery County Parks, oversee funding and donations, and inspire our volunteers.
Work with the staff at Holy Cross and Suburban Hospitals to design, build, plant and maintain wildlife gardens, butterfly gardens, rain gardens, and trees on their properties. The nature of these positions requires daytime hours.
We are also targeting corporate campuses, shopping malls and small property owners to expand our private property stewardship program. Wouldn't you like to make our County a nicer place to live by helping large and small property owners with gardening that attracts birds and butterflies, improves water quality, controls stormwater runoff, and adds beauty?
Work with the County's public schools to plant and care for trees.
