Support Forest Acquisition Adjacent to Fairland Recreational Park

July 13, 2009

Dear County Council Member,

The Sierra Club, Montgomery County Group, supports the acquisition of a 52-acre tract of land in the vicinity of Fairland Recreational Park and McKnew Local Park using funds (ALARF) Montgomery County received from the state in exchange for land it transferred to create the Intercounty Connector.

Preservation of this tract as a protected park is particularly valuable because it contains a mature Coastal Plain forest and wetlands that will provide opportunities for county residents to enjoy a natural setting and, at the same time, will help protect the water quality of the McKnew tributary of the Little Paint Branch.

Sincerely,

David Hauck
Chair
