Parks! Not Pavement! Campaign

Blockhouse Point Park

Lake Needwood

Seven of our forested conservation areas and stream valley parks lie right in the path of  proposed routes for the ICC and the “techway”.   These parks were created as buffer zones for streams that feed into the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.  They were created to act as filters for impurities entering the stream valley so as to keep the water flowing downstream as clean as possible.  Paving these areas would destroy valuable habitat, will cost taxpayer dollars to clean up our drinking water and will pollute the Bay. On April 27, some 350 people participated in a rally at Lake Needwood opposing the ICC. At least 250 of these devoted another couple of hours to exploring its woodland route in the company of elected officials, the press, friends, neighbors, and the children who will suffer the additional polluted air and water and loss of forests if this road is built.
