5th Annual Environmental Career Night

Speaker:		The Sierra Club Montgomery County Group's Environmental Education Committee invites students, homeschoolers, teachers, college students and adults looking for a career change to meet with representatives from environmental, educational and government institutions to learn about career and volunteer opportunities. Admission is free and all are welcome. Refreshments will be provided.

Maryland Home Performance with Energy Star
When:		April 23 (Wed.) 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Where:		7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park, MD
Speaker:		The Sierra Club is co-sponsoring this presentation that will cover cost-effective steps you can take to make your home more energy efficient. It also will provide information on how to find qualified energy auditors and contractors trained to do energy efficient retrofits. Depending on how many actions you take, a homeowner can realize savings on their utility bills of 15 to 25 percent. Open to Sierra Club members and non-members alike. Bring your friends and neighbors!

Montgomery County Stormwater Partners Meeting
When:		May 8th (Thurs.) 6:00-9:00 p.m.

C&O Canal Pride Days
When:		April 19th through May 10th
Speaker:		Come out to enjoy the Spring weather and work with National Park staff on nearly 100 projects along the C&O Canal. Over the course of four weeks, volunteers will paint lockhouses, cut back overgrown vegetation and plant trees along the canal.

Into Thick Air
When:		May 15th (Thurs.) 7:00 p.m.
Where:		REI College Park, 9801 Rhode Island Ave. College Park, MD
Speaker:		Just in time for Bike-to-Work week, Jim Malusa comes to Washington to share what it’s like to bicycle to the lowest point on six continents. Malusa’s first trip took him to Lake Eyre in the arid heart of Australia. Next he followed Moses’ route from the Nile valley to the shore of the Dead Sea, and then raced against winter from Moscow to the Caspian Sea. Later journeys found him pedaling across the Andes to Salina Grande in the Argentine Patagonia and around Djibouti to Lac Assal in the Horn of Africa. Malusa will read from his new book, Into Thick Air (published by Sierra Club Books).
