Seneca Creek Backpack, MNF, WV

Photos by Michael Juskelis, 2009/05/23-25.

Day 1

The first open meadow along Big Run.

The North Prong was a miniature Seneca Creek.

The upper North Prong Meadow gave up some nice views.

Our final destination for the day, Seneca Falls. It's hard to believe that the campsite was vacant on this holiday weekend.

Day 2

A view from the upper Huckleberry meadow with Allegheny Mountain in the background. We were there yesterday.

Dick and Andy stand on the railroad grade we couldn't find last year due to high grass.

A panoramic view to the east with Spruce Mountain in the center.

From the same spot looking west with Seneca Creek valley behind the tree line and Allegheny Mountain and other distant ridges in the background. Spruce Mountain is to the left.

The view from the upper "official" High Meadows.

The view from the middle"official" meadow.

Looking back at the meadows from below.

Day 3

There were water works all along the creek as we hiked out.

We call this set of falls the Three Amigos.

The popular Grist Stone campsite was being put to good use by a young family.

The Grist Stone waterfall.

One of two chutes below Judy Springs.

Celebrating the completion of another successful outing at the Gateway Restaurant.

Flora and Fauna

Wolf's-milk Slime (Lycogala epidendrum) growing on a rotting log.

Meadow Phlox or Wild Sweet William (Phlox maculata) was growing in all of the meadows we visited.

Hooked Crowfoot (Ranunculus recurvatus).
