New England Aster (Aster novae-angliae). This light violet flower was everywhere!
Dunkenbarger Run was lined with these tart Cranberries (Vaccinium macrocarpon).
American Toad (Bufo americanus). "I know you've heard it before but I really am a prince!" (CK)
Hairy Golden Rod (Solidago hispida) prefers rocky hillsides.
Closed Gentian (Gentiana andrewsii), seen wherever we had water on the trail and lots of sunshine.
This Eastern Comma Butterfly (Polygonia comma) was all over Mike and his gear. Note the orange hindwings; in summer they are black.
Lance-Leaved Golden Rod (Solidago graminifolia) with migrating Monarchs (Danaus plexippus).
