Otter Creek Wilderness Backpack, MNF, WV

Photos by Michael Juskelis, 2006/08/26-28.

Hiking along the McGowan Mountain Trail. That's a big rock!

Moore Run Bog.

Our first creek crossing at the beginning of our day hike.

Possession Camp Run was flowing full force after a night of rain.

Hiking through an interesting "crack" in the mountain.

This swimming hole proved to be quite refreshing.

The Otter Creek Waterworks!

The confluence of Moore Run and Otter Creek.

What made these absolutely linear seams in this rock?

... and this hole through the rocks by the falls?

I always wanted to know how deep this swimming hole is. Gary is about 6' 4" tall. That's his hand!

This flower has us stumped. Any help?

Another unknown flower; we can't find any aster with swept back petals like this.

Some kind of coral mushroom. The flash washed the color out. It is actually a chocolate brown.

Gomphus floccosus, Scaly Chanterelle. One of the few chanterelles NOT recommended for consumption.

Coltricia cinnamomeus, Shiny Cinnamon Polypore. Younger specimens are somewhat funnel shaped.

Bondarzewia berkeleyi, Stump Blossom. Obviously, these things get quite large!
