Hog Camp Gap to Reed's Gap: AT Shuttle Backpack, VA

About halfway to camp we found this vista, which was not shown on our maps.
We visited Spy Rock with its 360 degree view early the second day. The climb was worth the effort! Panoramas in two directions are shown below.

Butter-and-Eggs (Linaria vulgaris), growing in a field on Tar Jacket Ridge along with Yarrow, Mullein and others.
Turk's-cap Lily (Lilium superbum), the tallest and most prolific wild lily in our region.
Either Gray's Lily (Lilium grayi) or Canada Lily (Lilium canadense) or most likely the common hybrid
"Lilium x pseudograyi Grove", in shady areas on Tar Jacket Ridge.
Abbot's Sphinx Caterpillar (Sphecodina abbotti).
Vasevine / Leather Flower (Clematis viorna).
Cornucopia Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus sapidus) is a choice edible. We found several clusters.
Pulveroboletus ravenelii, Powdery Sulfur Bolete: Cap and stem "powdery" when young, coming off in one's hand.
Silver-spotted Skipper on milkweed at Reed's Gap.
White Campion (Silene latifolia) found growing at Reed's Gap.
Toothed White-Topped Aster (Seriocarpus asteroides). Note the sparse rays between petals.
