Piney Ridge / Thornton River, Shenandoah NP

Photos by Michael Juskelis, 2004/03/17.

There had been an ice storm at the higher elevations the night before so we walked about 5 miles through a crystal forest. We got close to a deer (common in SNP). Spooked 2 grouse and about 6 woodcocks (got close enough to one to see its long bill). And to think we almost canceled due to the weather forecast!

Betty at the top of two 10 ft. waterfalls, a good lunch spot for next time.

New meaning to the phrase "Ford Tough."
