Canoe Trip on the Mattawoman

When:

Jul 24, 2010

Details:

Jack Mawhinney will lead a canoe/kayak paddle on the Mattwoman on the morning of Saturday, July 24, 2010.  The paddle/lunch/bird/fish watching event will take about 3 to 4 hours (maximum).  We will accommodate beginners and expert outdoorsmen/women. Anyone with bird knowledge/fish and fresh-water-tidal-estuary biology knowledge will be celebrated.  We will talk about the importance of protecting the Mattawoman estuary as one of the last pristine wildlife havens on the Chesapeake watershed.  Political action might be requested.

People who don't have their own kayak or canoe need to contact Up-The-Creek Rentals  to rent a vessel (Sue.tice@ccautobody.com).  A credit card deposit will be required to reserve a boat.

Given the possibility of excessive afternoon heat or thunderstorms on 24 July, the outing will start at 9:00 AM (the bass fishermen will be on the water from 6 AM onward). Please arrive around 8:30 am to deal with sign-in, boat rentals and pre-outing briefing.  If there is rain, but no threat of lightining, we will sail rain or shine!  We will accept the tidal conditions. whatever they are.
