Greater Baltimore Group Changes The first step in effecting a split was to hold separate monthly
"conservation" meet ings to discuss environmental issues specific to the area our
members live in. While there are certain issues that are common
to both areas, it was decided that enough environment concerns
specific to each area existed to warrant separate monthly meetings. The City group continues to meet in the office of Clean Water
Action, the second Wednesday of the month. The county conservation
group holds its meetings the first Wednesday of the month, alternating
between Oregon Ridge Nature Center and Cromwell Valley Park. The County meetings begin at 7pm and typcially run until 9pm.
Recently the County conservation committee has looked closely
at the "Rural Legacy" proposal for Eastern Baltimore County which,
thankfully, won approval for "Rural Legacy" funds. The County group has also been involved in a sediment control
project, learning about Baltimore County sediment control methods
and how to report problems. In the near future, the County group
will be holding interviews with county council candidates and
incumbents to discuss their answers on a questionnaire mailed
to them by the county group. In order to move ahead with the "split" of the Greater Baltimore
Group, both sets of activists have to have volunteers to assume
all group excom positions and functions. If you have an interest
in becoming active or would just like additional information on
a specific topic, please call Erica Parker at (410) 661-7484 for
County group information and Terry Harris for City group information.
Several months ago, the Executive Committee of the Greater Baltimore
Group voted to make some changes within t
he group structure in order to move toward a possible "split"
of the group. Two groups would be formed with a split, one for
Baltimore City members and one for Baltimore County members.
