Chapter Changes - Dr. Brian Parker, Chair

s the saying goes, the one constant in life is change. This has been, so far, a year marked by change for the Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club. It started in January with my becoming Chapter Chair. Glen Besa, who did an outstanding job as chair, left this position to work with us in a different role in the Sierra Club - as an Appalachian Region staff member.This past spring, Bonnie Burgess, who did a super job as Chapter Secretary and leader of the Federal issues network, stepped down from these roles due to the demands of work and school. Erica Parker has become our new Secretary. Also this spring, Beth Weston joined us as membership chair.
This summer, Terry Harris resigned as the editor of this newsletter and as an At-Large member of the Chapter Executive Committee. This brings to an end over a decade of service to the Chapter, including a stint as Chapter Chair. For this, on behalf of the Maryland Chapter I have expressed our thanks to Terry for a job, actually many jobs, well done. Fortunately, Terry will remain active with the Sierra Club as the Chair of the Greater Baltimore Group.
The Chapter Executive Committee has appointed Baird Straughan of the Montgomery County Group to serve the remainder of Terry's term as an At-Large member.
Changes, although sometimes difficult, present us with new opportunities. The Ex-Com has established an editorial board which would like to, with your help and input, "re-invent" this newsletter to make it even better and more useful to you our readers and members. The editorial board will select a new editor. Anyone who is interested in the important position or any other role with the newsletter, please give us a call.
I wonder what changes the fall will bring.

Nominations for Maryland Chapter Executive Committee Open

Three seats on the Maryland Chapter Executive Committee (ExCom) are open. There are a total of six at large seats on the Executive Committee. Each year half of these seats are up for election. If you would like to run for a position on the ExCom, send your name and a brief description (200 words or less) of your qualifications and goals to the nominating committee. The Chapter ExCom meets every other month (typically on the third Saturday of every odd-numbered month) and carries on other business of the Club via telephone and Email.
