Impressions from the Alaska Trip

By Thea and Chris Warner

We would like to thank everyone who made our Alaskan cruise possible. This includes the Sierra Club Maryland Chapter, Peele Travel, World Explorer Cruises, and American Airlines. Our excursion was certainly a travel experience of a lifetime.
We journeyed to nine Alaskan and two Canadian ports of call. Along the way we witnessed mile after mile of stunning unspoiled natural beauty and wildlife, and met many fascinating and kind individuals. Educational lectures on topics in biology, anthropology, geology, and history were offered throughout the cruise. This was a wonderful way to learn about Alaska before exploring on our own. Another highlight was when the captain held the ship near Glacier Bay an extra hour so we could watch a spectacular ?show? put on by a humpback whale.
World Explorer Cruise is rather unique among cruise lines. They focus on education and interactive adventure, have a comfortable and unpretentious shipboard atmosphere, and visit numerous Alaskan ports of call.
This trip was something we never would have been able to do on our own at this time in our lives, and we are grateful beyond words for the opportunity we were given. We would like very much to return to Alaska someday and explore more of this beautiful and exciting place.
