Our
hard work is starting to pay off for the Weed Warriors sponsored by the
Sierra
Club and working on removing invasive plants in Quiet Waters Park.If you drive into the park and look to the
right just past the gatehouse, you will see an area cleared of the
vines that
were hanging on trees. It may be small,
but it is also obvious.
Weed
Warriors now has four volunteers. They
are John Cook, Agnes Lorentzen, Liz Vanden Heuvel and quite recently,
Lauren
Thomas.John Cook gets credit for much
of the work to date.He is effective,
knows what he is doing and knows the plants.Lauren
Thomas
will
be
an equally effective worker.She
is fast, energetic and has tools. She is
planning to work extra days.(Pictured

Joyce Riley-Green, Quiet Waters Park horticulturist, Liz
Vanden Heuvel, and John Cook.)
Agnes
(pictured on the right is working on
a large plot of invasive weeds just behind the Visitors” Center and Liz
is
helping near the gatehouse as much as possible.
At
the Friends of Quiet Waters Volunteer reception, the Weed Warriors and
Liz
received an award for our work.It was
quite a surprise and most encouraging.Another
person
from
the audience will be
volunteering to assist us soon.
You
can join us, too.We meet on Wednesday
mornings just inside the gatehouse at around 9:30 or 10:00. Other days
or times
can be arranged. Contact Liz if
interested at 410-267-9009 or by email at liz2vh@olg.com.
