Outings Anyone??
Liz VandenHeuvel
On December 18th a group of us met at Barnes and Noble to discuss and
plan our Outings Program for the coming months. We were very fortunate
to have Dan Soeder, the Chapter Outings Chair with us for some
inspiration and assistance. The group of eight included three new
leaders - Nicki Eger, Paul Warren and Bill Shuman.
Nicki is an
experienced leader of hikes and will be offering some trips in the
February/March 2008 newsletter. Bill Shuman is a caving enthusiast and
will be leading a
caving outing soon - check the newsletter. Paul Warren will be out of
the country for a while but will plan an outing or two when he returns
in March. Joe Pepin, the Outings Chair for our group will also be
leading hiking outings. Susan Hartsfield is already leading outings to
a recycling center. Be sure to sign up for her next one if you haven't
gone already.
Judy Mauriello and Liz may be planning a paddling trip or two when it
gets warmer.
At Dan's suggestion, we would like to plan some outings for singles,
families, dog lovers and outings linked to conservation issues -
especially global warming.
Let us hear from you. Are there outings you would like to see happen?
Are you interested in becoming an outings leader yourself? You don't
have to be a marathon person to do this. The Sierra Club will reimburse
you for taking a Standard First Aid course. Contact Liz at liz2vh@olg.com or call her at

pepin@toad.net with
your ideas.
