Volunteers Promote Club at Music
Festival
David Prosten
Hundreds of attendees at the Eastport-a-Rockin’ music
festival in Annapolis June 21 stopped by a well-staffed Sierra Club
table, inquiring about the group’s work and leaving with
handfuls of information.
The group was one of several community groups waving their
organizational flags on the bright, warm day as bands played on three
stages in the area. The event was a fundraiser for the Annapolis
Maritime Museum and the Anne Arundel County Crisis Response Center.
Club volunteers chatted with festival attendees on topics ranging from
the state of the Chesapeake Bay to energy efficient light bulbs and the
downside of throwaway plastic grocery store bags.
Two dozen visitors to the group booth signed up for the
club’s email alert list, which describes outings, programs
and other events. To get yourself on the list send an email to dprosten@yahoo.com,
with “put me on the list” in
the subject line. Nearly 50 people signed a petition to protect
Mattawoman Creek from threatened development.
Club participation in the event was coordinated by volunteers Mary
Porcella and Kendal Cohen. Several volunteers staffed the Club
information table from
11 am to 8 pm , including Carolyn Kenney, Deede Miller, Susan Sonde,
Herb Cully and David Prosten.
