Club Activists Move on to Higher Office

Joan Willey

Joan Turek, a member of the Sierra Club Anne Arundel Group Executive Committee, has stepped down to take a voluntary job with Anne Arundel County. County Executive Leopold appointed Turek to the County Planning Advisory Board (PAB). As a member of PAB she will review proposed capital projects annually with representatives from different County Departments, the Board of Education, and the Anne Arundel County Community College.

In addition to reviewing proposed capital projects, the PAB also reviews the General Development Plan, Small Area Plans and various facility master plans such as the Solid Waste Master Plan and the Water and Sewer Master Plan.

Nita Settina, a past activist with the Maryland Chapter and Anne Arundel Group, has been selected as the superintendent of the Maryland Park Service. Nita has been a well known and respected environmentalist in Maryland for more than 20 years, and the state is most fortunate to have her in this position.
