Sierra Clubbers Dine Al Fresco at Quiet Waters Park – For a While!
Judy Mauriello
Afternoon thunder showers dominated the weather forecasts for our 1st
annual Spring Picnic. And the forecasts were correct! We started
gathering at eleven o’clock. Young Lee led us in a wonderful,
relaxing Tai Chi stretch. As we were stretching we sniffed the
appetizing odors from the grill, where hamburgers, hot dogs and veggie
burgers were sizzling.
Upon completion of the exercises, those involved joined the rest of the
members around the picnic tables. Sierrans are known as good cooks and
we lived up to our reputations on May 31st. The salads, side dishes,
and desserts were marvelous, tasty accompaniments to the food from the
grill. Prizes were given to the cooks who had worked with locally grown
foods.
Our afternoon schedule called for pulling invasive weeds near the
composting center at Quiet Waters Park and then a nature hike led by
one of the Park Rangers. Unfortunately, just as we gathered to pull
weeds the predicted thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds,
materialized. We waited a while but the storm did not let up and the
rest of the day’s activities were canceled.
We enjoyed our first annual Spring Picnic, even though it was
shortened, and look forward to next year’s event. A replacement
Service Project will be scheduled at Quite Waters Park for the fall.
