Opportunities for Taking Action: The Comprehensive Plan Process

April 28, 2011, 1:00pm: Land Use Marketplace Forum. The goal of this forum will be to understand the driving forces behind real estate and development in Charles County. This forum will include presentations by local and national experts, and a moderated expert panel discussion on market and land use issues. Location: College of Southern Maryland.

Regional Visioning Work Sessions (Thursday in May and June). This group of similarly-structured, regionally-specific meetings will give the public the opportunity to identify and refine Comprehensive Plan visions, goals, and issues, and to begin to develop land use options for the 2012 Comprehensive Plan. Locations: North Point High School (May 5), Newburg (May 12), Bryans Road (May 26), Nanjemoy (June 2).

Regional Design Charettes (Summer 2011). Following up the Regional Visioning Sessions, the Design Charettes--to be held in the same four locations--will focus on refining scenarios, including land use concept maps and major policies. Locations: North Point High School, Newburg, Bryans Road, and Nanjemoy. Dates/locations TBD.

Open House (Fall 2011). The scenarios developed through the Regional Visioning Sessions and Design Charettes will be further refined and presented at the Open House. Participants will be invited to give additional comments and input, and to select the scenario (or combination of scenarios) that will best serve the County through 2040. Dates/locations TBD.

Joint County Commissioners/Planning Commissioner Briefing (Fall 2011). A presentation will summarize the Comprehensive Plan to date, as well as the preferred Comprehensive Plan scenario. Dates/locations TBD.
