Mattawoman Creek 20 miles south of Washington DC, is the last best remnant of what Chesapeake Bay rivers were like when the Bay teemed with life. Now un-needed roads and development threaten the herons, turtles, fish and rare plants and the quality of life this precious regional watershed supports. Saturday, August 18, 2012 for a kayak trip on Mattawoman Creek!
This is your chance to learn more about one of the most pristine and rich aquatic ecosystems in Maryland that is sadly endangered by sprawl development.
We have planned an easy kayak trip, suitable for beginners. We will kayak for 4 hours, and cover a distance of around two miles round trip.
Kayakers will be meeting at 8:00am at Maryland Sierra Club office to carpool. The address is 7338 Baltimore Ave, Suite 111, College Park, Maryland 2074.
Folks who would rather just drive to Mattawoman Creek directly, please meet us at Up the Creek Rental, 108A Mattingly Ave, Indian Head, MD 20640 at 10:00. If you have your own kayak please bring it. We will meet you there at 10:00 am at Up the Creek Rentals.
Pack a lunch for a picnic. We will hold a brief informative presentation about preventing further damage to the health of the Mattawoman watershed.

Please meet us at the Maryland Sierra Club office to carpool at 9 a.m. Don’t forget to bring your lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, and lots of water. We should return by 3pm.

Invasive plant removals are held at Ruth B. Swann Park or Chapman forest every month.
