Be part of it:
Become a Membership Co-Chair or Membership Engagement Team leader. Membership chairs work with the political and conservation, fundraising and program and other committees. Recruiting a Membership Engagement Team and divvying up responsibilities can expand what the Membership Chair can accomplish.
Help groups and group membership chairs:
Answer questions on how to get membership lists from national, how to use HELEN, and how to set up list serves.
Communicate what the rules are for using lists for outreach, action, political, emails, phone calls, mailings.
Generate lists for phone banks or mailings
Handle membership inquiries and data:
Enter contact information and updated membership information from phone banks and member requests into HELEN.
Handle inquiries about membership, changes of address, new memberships, outings, volunteer, conservation issues cries for help.
Periodically review zip code designations statewide (especially on county borders) to align members with their area groups.
Communicate with national about changing group designations for various zip codes to place misplaced members in their correct groups.
Reach Out:
Contact outings chairs, committee, and group leaders to encourage them to have membership brochures available at events. Tell them how to get outreach materials.
Make sure a membership ad appears in every chapter and group newsletter.
Work with the webmaster to put a member questionnaire on the website and forward responses to appropriate leaders.
Call interested volunteers and link them to other leaders.

Start a Membership Engagement Team. Encourage sharing among groups.
Bring the 9 groups’ membership chairs (look them up on WILD or in the MD Directory) together to find out how it is for them, what they do, how we could help at the chapter level.

Team could have: Administrator, Events Coordinator, Publicity, Recruiter, Volunteer Coordinator
Bring to the table:
--20-25 hours a month of your time
--Ability to interact effectively and pleasantly with public, volunteers, staff, and other outside organizations and to interact, motivate, and train volunteers.
--2-3 years experience as a member in Sierra Club or other non-profit volunteer activities.
-- Enjoyment in meeting new people and going to social events.
-- -- Experience in managing people and project/program development.
-- Proficiency in email and Word processing (spreadsheets, a plus).
-- Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
-- Strong written and oral communication skills and good public speaking skills.
