ICC and Sustainable Transportation Action Alert
Issued February 18, 2009

Let's Make This the Year That Maryland Cancels the Intercounty Connector!

Here Are Three Simple Ways That You Can Help!

*       Call and Write Your State Senator and Delegates ASAP.
Urge Them to Co-sponsor and Champion Legislation to Defund the the ICC.

Make sure they see the light.... or feel the heat.

*       Amplify Your Impacts!  Spread the Word Through Your Networks and Phone Bank With Us!

*       Meet With Your Legislators and Help Us Work the Halls of the General Assembly.

If you want to help with any of these activities.... or in any other way.... let us know by take filling out a quick and simple survey at:

Filling out this survey takes just a few minutes, and we will hold your information confidential.

Call and Write Your State Senator and Delegates.

Urge Them to Co-sponsor and Champion Legislation to Defund the the ICC.

Please call your state representatives then follow up with a simple note as soon as you can.

*       You can find your delegates' and senator's contact information at the link below.

Urge your three delegates to co-sponsor House Bill 27, which defunds the ICC and is sponsored by Delegate Barbara Frush.  Delegates can amend themselves onto HB 27 by writing to Delegate Frush.

Urge your senators to co-sponsor the Senate Bill 753.  Senators can amend themselves onto SB 753 by writing to Senator E.J. Pipkin.

Also urging your delegates and senators to ensure that all funding for the ICC is deleted from the Fiscal Year 2009 and Fiscal Year 2010 budgets.  The State should not build this $4 billion boondoggle at the expense of schools, public schools, public safety or the environment.

Make Sure They Hear You -- A Few Suggestions to Ensure That Your Representatives Get Your Message

*       Write your representatives then call them.  Make sure they see your note, and make it clear that you want them to tell what actions they've taken.

*       Send your representatives an email message, then fax or mail them a letter.

*       If your representatives oppose the ICC or have co-sponsored the bills, be sure to thank them.

If they say that they will vote for the bill but not co-sponsor it, urge them to take the next step and co-sponsor and champion HB 27 or SB 753.

*       If one of your representatives supports the ICC, urge them to reconsider and to write you a letter explaining exactly why he or she supports it.

*       If you leave a message, also give your phone number and ask your representative to let you know what they intend to do.

Meet With Your Legislators and Help Us Work the Halls of the General Assembly.

After you call and write your legislators, and encourage your friends and family to, too, now it's time to meet with the folks who are supposed to represent you in Annapolis.

Some legislators tell us that, in addition to reliable information, what they most value is meeting with their constituents and hearing their ideas and concerns.

Want to meet with your legislators to encourage them to ensure that Maryland cancels the ICC and invests in sustainable transportation?
