ICC Calls and Letters

Governor O'Malley says he is "green" and, indeed, his support for everything from the Blackwater land purchase and his recent vote against the Kent Island development, to his support for the Clean Cars Act and the Stormwater Bill seems to concur. But he has one enormous blind spot: the Intercounty Connector, which will single-handedly wipe out many of our environmental gains.

The $3+ billion dollar Intercounty Connector would be a major segment in a sprawling, destructive Outer Beltway around Washington, DC.  The ICC would not make a dent in traffic congestion, but it would trigger a new wave of suburban sprawl in several counties.   This is hardly a "green" agenda. THE ICC IS NOT A DONE DEAL .......

Although Governor O'Malley inherited this multi-billion boondoggle from Bob Ehrlich, he can stop it in its tracks. An act of the General Assembly and the Governor could redirect much of the $3+ billion currently mis-aimed at the ICC toward other, better uses.

Next: Contact your State Legislators

Thirty-five senators and delegates sent a letter to Governor O'Malley this March asking him to take a time out on the ICC until the transportation priorities of the state are fully reassessed. Did your senator & delegates sign on? If yes, send them an email, thank them and ask them to continue the fight. If not, urge them to write to Governor O'Malley and oppose the ICC.
