Learning Sustainable Skills

On November 2, 2006 the St. Mary's River Watershed Association sponsored an airing of the DVD movie "Building with Awareness; the Construction of a Hybrid Home" at the Lexington Park Library as part of their Backyard Conservation Workshop series. The movie by Ted Owens features info on:

· straw bale walls

· post and beam framing

· passive solar heating and cooling

· rubble trench foundation

· roof framing and insulation

· concrete floors

· radiant floor heat

· earth plaster for walls

· photovoltaic systems

· rainwater cisterns

· design and aesthetics
