 Anne Arundel

On March 8th, 2007, our group held a very successful meeting on the subject of global warming.  Slightly over 40 people signed in and one member counted 75 people in attendance.  We were treated to a presentation by Annapolis mayor, Ellen Moyer, and Ray Weaver, the city's Public Information Officer. Mayor Moyer and Mr. Weaver were among the first group of people trained by Al Gore and their presentation was similar to the information presented by him in his award winning movie "An Inconvenient Truth".

 Mount Rainier

The Neighbors United for Peace and Justice Group in Mount Rainier (~13 people) has decided to work on global warming.

Under former mayor Fred Sissine, Mt. Rainier joined ICLEI  to participate in the CCP Program (Cities for Climate Protection), did a greenhouse gas emissions inventory, made a plan to reduce emissions, and took some steps. The Mt Rainier Cool Cities team is going to renew interest in the community to build upon these steps and get things moving forward again to get the plan implemented.

 PG Pool

Mimi and Laurel plan to initiate a “Cool Pool team” at their local summer swimming pool.  They hope to bring members together to create a plan, make a budget, get funding from the board or grants from MDE (Maryland Department of Environment) for such things as:

Hot water solar panels (could actually save the pool a lot of money), such as solar electric panels

Rain barrels to collect water for use on lawns

 Tree planting
