Assistant Office Manager Internship

GOAL:  To assist Sierra Club Maryland Chapter Staff in the daily running of the office, volunteer co-ordination, and support of chapter executive committee, nine groups, campaigns, and training programs.

Will be supervised by Sierra Club MD Chapter Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

1.            Become familiar with Sierra Club’s mission, current campaigns, and members services through the volunteer support website and written materials.

2.            Help to organize, streamline and keep up filing, database, and office systems. Answer phones, pass on messages, and respond to inquiries. Recruit and work with volunteers. Prepare “how to” information sheets for various office activities. Assist with mailings.

3.            Complete a special project such as media contacts list update, archiving materials, chapter directory, or donor database update.

4.            Attend, assist, take notes at, and make reports for meetings or events of Sierra Club Maryland chapter, groups, committees, activists, associated coalition organizations, or government officials.

5.            Support Maryland Chapter Communications. Research articles and coordinate printing for the Maryland Newsletter "Chesapeake."  Update the website. Call members to generate turnout for meetings and events.

6.            Help organize and carry out outreach efforts at festivals or events to support current campaigns such as Challenge to Sprawl, Cool Cities, True Cost of Food, and Special Places. Create and distribute materials such as flyers, brochures, and email alerts.

7.            Communicate regularly with Maryland Chapter Staff to report progress and get feedback and advice. Schedule regular weekly hours in the office, set up a personal calendar, maintain a journal & documentation and write a short (1-3 page) description and evaluation of your internship experience and critique of organizational systems.
