Join us in our efforts to promote transit-oriented development in Montgomery County, and to enhance our transit systems! Here's how
This is an issue analysis and advocacy business. We need people interested in learning the principles of smart growth and applying them to land use and transportation issues to be decided by County officials.
We need to close loopholes in the zoning law that allow giant McMansions to be built. We need design guidelines for placement and form of houses. We need expansion of the program to transfer the remaining development rights out of the Agriculture Reserve. That is, we need a few people who are, or have the urge to be, zoning wonks!
Western Gaithersburg, Germantown, Clarksburg, and the Agriculture Reserve are still threatened with damaging sprawl development. Communities and environment are threatened by road-building schemes. We need people who are not afraid to stand up to big development interests when we need to say NO!
We need Smart Growth and conservation-minded people in communities undergoing master plan amendments, especially eastern Montgomery County.
Help convince our legislature just how damaging it is to keep spending money on the ICC in the current financial (and heating!) climate, at the expense of cleaner, efficient transit. Attend transit meetings, testify in support of the Purple Line, Bus Rapid Transit routes to link Olney, Germantown, and other communities to the metropolitan transit centers, and organize events to promote transit over gridlock!
