Views along Black Moshannon Creek
Our first close-up of "The Red Mo". The water is clear but the rocks are coated with an iron based mineral due to acid leaching from nearby defunct coal mines.
This rock wall was along the edge of a large clearing, perhaps an old logging camp. The underwater artifacts appear to be man-made. A dam to hold back logs until ice out?
Six Mile Run.
This portion of the Allegheny Front Trail required extensive trail engineering such as this cribbing which serves to keep the steep hill from collapsing down onto the trail and these hand placed steps used to climb up and over narrow parts of the stream valley.
A small segment of Wolf Rocks.
Views of Moss-Hanne Bogs.
Back at our starting point, Black Moshannon Lake (31 miles later) as ominous clouds roll in.
Baby swallows.
Devil's paintbrush.
