Welcome to the Greater Baltimore Group of the national Sierra Club. The Greater Baltimore Group includes Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Harford County. This site contains local events, outings, and any information dealing with local Sierra Club causes. We focus on local issues, however we do get involved in national campaigns using the information supplied to us by our national organization in San Francisco.

Take Action - Take Note

Environment Maryland has an open position for a Policy Advocate who would focus on environmental policy in Maryland. The Policy Advocate will develop campaigns to limit pollution into the Chesapeake Bay, promote development policies that result in walkable, healthy communities, and work on the implementation of our recent victories in the areas of land preservation and water quality protection. Based in Baltimore, with frequent travel to Annapolis. Send a resume and cover letter to bsh@environmentmaryland.org

WE NEED YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESSES! The Sierra Club is most effective when our members show up at community meetings or hearings or contact their elected officials to voice their opinions and advocate for the environment. We can use e-mail to contact you more than the four times a year the newsletter affords us, in order to let you know about upcoming meetings, important legislation, etc. If you want to join this environmental hot-mail, give your e-mail address to Cliff Terry at Cliff.Terry@maryland.sierraclub.org

------------------------------------------------

We need contributions for the Greater Baltimore Sierran newsletter. Please contact XxDiTz4LyFxX@aol.com if you have articles, pictures, trip suggestions, or poetry to share.

Young Sierrans group was created for people in their 20s and 30s who like to get outdoors and are concerned about our environment. The group holds Young Sierrans Socials every 2nd Thursday of the month at the City Cafe in Mt. Vernon; their monthly outings generally occur on the Saturday that follows the Social. Please visit the group's new website:

October 26, 2005
Added a new hike for December 10th.

A personal note: I visited the electronics "drop-off day" in Towson on Saturday the 22nd. I was blown away by the turn-out! There was a line up York Road and several hundred cars were processed in the time it took me to drop my personal items off. According to an article I found on the last event in April, 1600 cars came through then and I would guess that they had at least that amount this time. It truly made me proud to see so many people taking the time to act responsibly - keeping that type of waste out of the landfill where it doesn't belong. -Doug

October 21, 2005
There is a new Action item above regarding a meeting to discuss campaign finance reform. Plenty of new outings are on the outings page, get ready for the winter season. We have a special edition of the newsletter posted about Forest Stewardship, take a look.
